About Your Speaker.

Lee Whitwell practices civil rights and employment litigation in Memphis, Tennessee, as the Chief Litigation Attorney for the Shelby County Attorney’s Office. He handles federal §1983 defense litigation, including wrongful detention, excessive force, and wrongful death cases. Prior to joining the County Attorney’s Office, he worked for the Spence Law Firm where he handled §1983 cases on behalf of plaintiffs. In addition to practicing law, Mr. Whitwell is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Memphis School of Law, where he teaches Appellate Advocacy, a second-year class on appellate brief writing and oral argument. He has argued civil rights and employment cases to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Tennessee Supreme Court, and serves as a panelist for the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility.
