Sara Barnett

Sara Barnett works in the field of intimate partner violence her entire legal career. After graduating law school from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2013, Ms. Barnett worked as a prosecutor in the Garfield County District Attorney’s Office. There she prosecuted felony and misdemeanor domestic violence crimes. Ms. Barnett additionally headed the county’s coordinated community response team, working with advocates and law enforcement to develop policies to strengthen victim’s access to resources and improve police response to domestic violence calls to allow for successful prosecution, accountability of offenders and justice for survivors.

In 2016, Ms. Barnett was the first on-site attorney hired by Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support to provide in house, trauma-informed, quality civil representation in family law matters in Dallas County. Ms. Barnett was quickly promoted to the program’s senior director, managing a team of attorneys and staff. Under her direction her team was awarded the D CEO Magazine- Non-Profit Corporate Citizenship Award for Nonprofit Team of the Year in 2018.

Ms. Barnett now practices family law exclusively with Connatser Family Law, where she plans to continue to advocate for survivors of violence and their children.Ms. Barnett regularly presents in the community on the intersection of family law, criminal law and domestic violence.
